The VEX Factor

Everybody's talking about it...and no it's not Eastenders but The X Factor!

"Injustice!" I hear many a Facebook status cry..but the BIG question is: How many of us vote? And if we do, how many times? Really, I would have loved to see Rachel "Ade-dayy-gee" go further; she was clearly one of the best singers in the competition. But realistically, not once was I moved to actually vote. And I'm sure, even after twice seeing the lovely lady sing for survival- neither did many of the people who are still complaining.

Truth is, The X Factor really isn't just about talent. It's as much about who manages you, what songs are picked, how you are styled, and how the public react to you than it is sheer talent. Rachel Adedeji clearly has better singing ability than John and Edward, yet the fact they are still in the competition shows that they have the likability talent. This, as well as patriotic "Irishness" equals votes. That's not to say the Nigerians didn't support Rachel ..they just weren't prepared to put their money where there mouths were. And I can say- I too am guilty of this.

I really hope Rachel goes far- I could literally feel her heart crush as she was told she was going home. She demonstrated tenacity, determination and courage; in fact now she's gone, X Factor's going to be pretty dry without the weekly cliffhangers-will she, wont she?

I thought Simon Cowell knew what he was doing when he took it to the public vote-yes Rachel is CLEARLY a better singer than Lloyd; as for him- he'll probably go home in another two weeks or so. But like all business, the music business is about SALES, and if Rachel can't sell phone votes , how is she expected to sell albums?

I hope Rachel doesn't let this kill her passion, and only pushes her closer to her dreams. Well done Rachel, you did us Naija's proud (even if we didn't all vote!).
And if that's not enough, we finally got Oyinbos attempting* to pronounce our surnames correctly- now that's an achievement in itself!

*attempting being the key phrase in the sentence,God bless the voiceover man- he never did get it right : )

Come Dine At Mine

With my group of girlfriends adjusting to the "twenties" crowd, many of us have opted to try something other than partying, shopping (or other ways of spending unnecessary monies) and have come up with the brilliant idea of Dinner Parties!

Well I did to be exact. And girls before you try it, remember who it was who served you that lovely candlelit dinner of Lasagne. Moving on...

So it must be pretty obvious we've "borrowed" the idea from Channel Four's hit show, Come Dine With Me. In actual fact, we are pretty much stealing every idea the producer's came up with; each host has to pay a certain amount into the kitty, and the contestant that receives the highest score wins all! Every host must be able to serve a three-course meal, provide good entertainment as well as prompting healthy convo.

I reckon this is good practice for the future-I've always said when I move into my own home, I would like to throw dinner parties, BBQs..the pressures on! The first dinner date is this Friday, however I'm slightly worried for my friend- she is the first person I know who was able to kill GOLDFISH , in the record time of a week--God help our poor souls; I think she overfed them !

Now for your job. To suggest the best dishes (starters, main and deserts) for MY night- Yes I am actually serious. I want to step out from the ordinary, so every idea is welcome...just make sure I win!

Let the games commence!!!

Judge NOT- Steve Harvey's Tearful Testimony

Just watched this moving video clip online, and simply had to share.
Being a newly-growing Christian myself, it amazes me how easy it is for some older Christians to forget how they were before they accepted Jesus into their lives. This is how I know God's grace is too good- from when we are able to hate the things we used to love doing, the way we were accustomed to our "fruitless" lifestyles of 20 odd years, only to turn away from it along with the negativity, and everything else that defiles us- I'd be a fool to think this was by any person's own strength alone.I fully acknowledge that it is only by the grace of God, that we are made NEW. Never do I want to be an example of a Christian who is too quick to look down on others.

Awesome.
And on that note I'd like to share the scripture that came to mind whilst watching this; Romans 12:3-5
"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another."

Let us always demonstrate God's love for us, through us-in action and in truth!

Amen!

Fab Black Art: Christian Anderson

There has always been something particularly exciting discovering raw talent, and it seems I've happened to have done just that! In a world where "talent" is often defined by the "who you know's" as opposed to the actual concept of ability (anyone see X Factor tonight? Shocking!), it's no wonder we feel refreshed upon discovering true talent still exists!

20 year-old BA Photography student Christian Anderson has a passion for the visual arts, and is currently studying at the notable London College of Communication. This budding photographer is inspired by the simple things in life such as the sky, the Big Guy in the Sky (God), and none other than Jazz music. These inspiring factors are definitely reflected in my personal favourite of his most recent projects; this one entitled "Insomniacs Ball" contains some "super-killer" shots, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who can relate to this piece, wondering exactly why it is seems all the best ideas seem to come in the middle of a sleepless night...and of course the sheer frustration of not being able to SLEEP!

I reckon in Christian's case, this is definitely an example of One to Watch... so "Let the Good Times Roll!"

What a week

This week has been such a challenging week...
Blocked nose, sore throat, un-met plans and a car accident later...I'm still here.

With all my arms and legs..no cuts, no bruises.

Whilst this may be my shortest blog post EVER,

In the words of that famous cartoon character..

Be Captivated...

Now that autumn's settling in nicely, there's nothing I love more than to chill out, heating on full blast whilst hidden in a good book!

A few of my fellow sista's have been going on about a book entitled "Captivating", by John and Stasi Eldredge. Now like I have said in previous posts, whilst I admit to have a problem with procrastination, I always end up doing what i set my heart to do eventually. (I was supposed to read this back in April!)

This book really did live up to all of the hype; not only did it help me understand why women are the way we are, the way our childhood influences us in later life, and a deeper insight in how the heart of a woman is a reflection of God's own heart, it also made me shed a good couple of tears. For someone who absolutely hates crying- this book had me bawling by the second chapter, it was so much that I had to put it down, make a few notes and get back to it when I had "recovered"!

I recommend this book to absolutely ANY female (and males who really want to understand us ladies), it has so much to offer, and for the bargain price of 6.99 (including postage and packaging -Good old Amazon!), it's such a fantastic investment. John Eldredge also wrote the male's version, "Wild at Heart", so mandem, that one's for you! (I'm hoping to buy it soon in my attempt of understanding the other species better!)

I'm quite a quick reader, so finished "Captivating" within a week, but it's got so much in it that I know I'm bound to pick it up again!

Whilst we're on the subject of books, any suggestions?

Shorty Swung My Way

Oh my gosh.

I've always thought I was the girl a lesbian would never want to approach, as I was pretty sure they could see the "No Homo" sign from a long way off.

Apparently not.

One brave sista tried her luck just a while ago, and i can honestly say; I am still in shock. Not only was she quite confident in her approach, she was short. As a five-foot-niner myself, I thought this was pretty brave of her- I know it's all about the heart but I really do not consider myself marrying someone shorter than me. *shudders*

Not only was she vertically challenged, she seemd to have had a lack of nurturing as a child..when I said a firm "no" to giving her my number she asked for a hug. Yes, a hug. Arms outstretched and everything. A hug? For What? I know I'm getting broodier by the years but c'marrnnn!

I am feeling a little strange right now, questioning what kinda "vibe" I''m giving off..( I'm like is it cos' I got short hair now?!) All I can say is PRAISE GOD I know who I am, I know that female to female is NOT my portion..and I'm praying for the deliverance of the young lady.

No offence guys, but I'm representing Adam and Eve all day, every day. (I told you I weren't walking on no eggshells!)
