"Injustice!" I hear many a Facebook status cry..but the BIG question is: How many of us vote? And if we do, how many times? Really, I would have loved to see Rachel "Ade-dayy-gee" go further; she was clearly one of the best singers in the competition. But realistically, not once was I moved to actually vote. And I'm sure, even after twice seeing the lovely lady sing for survival- neither did many of the people who are still complaining.
Truth is, The X Factor really isn't just about talent. It's as much about who manages you, what songs are picked, how you are styled, and how the public react to you than it is sheer talent. Rachel Adedeji clearly has better singing ability than John and Edward, yet the fact they are still in the competition shows that they have the likability talent. This, as well as patriotic "Irishness" equals votes. That's not to say the Nigerians didn't support Rachel ..they just weren't prepared to put their money where there mouths were. And I can say- I too am guilty of this.
I really hope Rachel goes far- I could literally feel her heart crush as she was told she was going home. She demonstrated tenacity, determination and courage; in fact now she's gone, X Factor's going to be pretty dry without the weekly cliffhangers-will she, wont she?
I thought Simon Cowell knew what he was doing when he took it to the public vote-yes Rachel is CLEARLY a better singer than Lloyd; as for him- he'll probably go home in another two weeks or so. But like all business, the music business is about SALES, and if Rachel can't sell phone votes , how is she expected to sell albums?
I hope Rachel doesn't let this kill her passion, and only pushes her closer to her dreams. Well done Rachel, you did us Naija's proud (even if we didn't all vote!).
And if that's not enough, we finally got Oyinbos attempting* to pronounce our surnames correctly- now that's an achievement in itself!
*attempting being the key phrase in the sentence,God bless the voiceover man- he never did get it right : )
